“Be Anxious for Nothing”

September 26, 2009

My husband and I have a little joke about my “life verse” Philippians 4:6.  I like this verse very much – and I take it much to seriously, if you want to know the truth.  For some strange reason, my life verse seems to only work in the New American Standard Bible, where it reads:

Philippians 4:6a
Be anxious for nothing,

Yup.  I’ve got that Bible verse down pat!  I’m anxious for nothing ALL THE TIME!  I know I’m supposed to pray in faith believing, and I do – really I do!  It’s just that my nature is to be anxious.  And frankly, when I’m anxious, it’s usually about nothing.  I’m anxious about things that haven’t happened yet, may never happen.  Some women are stronger than me, and don’t seem to be as anxious.  More power to you – you go, girl!  I’ll be anxious for both of us.

I just want to give a big “shout out” to all you other Philippians 4:6a folks out there, and give you at least one thing that you do NOT have to be anxious about;  the sticker price of colleges.  Did you know that hardly anyone pays the sticker price for a college?  It can happen, I’m sure.  But my friends are all old like me, and now I’ve seen a LOT of kids go to college now.  I can honestly say that sticker price has very little to do with the actual cost of college.  So don’t be anxious about affording Christian college just because you have seen the sticker price!  Private school can actually be less expensive than public college.

If you have to be anxious over nothing, just don’t let it be about the cost of private colleges.

I suppose I should close this blog post with the verse as it was originally intended:

Philippians 4:6 (New International Version)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

If you are an anxious person, the verse does encourage you to pray all the time, and talk to God about your anxieties and worries.  That’s a much better solution that being anxious over everything!

Amen!!! God’s a big God. He meets and supplies our needs. For us that includes providing for orphans, and mission outreaches . . . and braces, and bicycles, and yes, COLLEGE TUITION!!! We’re working on scholarships for our “middlest” #4 (of 7) kid. And we know that God is still MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!

    No worries here.
(But with MUCH gratitude to GOD!!!)
