I love hearing back from parents with graduates!  I love hearing about her successes with the National Merit Finalist, college admission, and full scholarships.  Here is what Andrea wrote:

I have learned so much over these past couple of years and appreciate so much the help your Gold Care Club has been.

My oldest son, Adam, just graduated and is going to be attending Auburn University this fall with scholarships that will more than equal a full ride!! Most of the scholarships are a direct result of his being a National Merit Finalist. Thanks so much for the help you gave in sending me information via email about the forms needed in that application process. It was an online process this year, but the information was pretty much just what you explained. Knowing that information ahead of time was very helpful  for us as we functioned as  the teacher and the counselor and the principal. I might join up again at a later date if needed, but I really feel that the courses I’ve listened to and the articles that I have read over the past couple of years have prepared me well to handle the transcript and college application process for my other kids when the time comes.

The information from your website, blogs, Gold Care Club, webinars and  DVD’s have been very helpful  for us in planning for high school and college! Whenever I am asked questions about doing high school at home, I generally always direct people to check out your website.

And yes, I am much more confident with my younger ones and my daughter who just finished her sophomore year even had a transcript as a Freshman.  Adam’s didn’t happen until the end of his Junior year- yikes!

Even though I am in the field of education, finding a plan for homeschooling high school and preparing good college transcripts was not easy. Then I came across Lee’s website and everything changed.

I first purchased the “Total Transcript Solution” program to help me organize and plan my 10th grade daughter’s transcripts. Homeschooling is NOT the same as doing schoolwork at home.  There is LOTS of freedom!  Read what others are saying about my Gold Care Club!

• Kids are who they are, and homeschooling will not force them to be unsocialized anymore than public school can force all children into becoming out-going socialites.
• Is homeschooling working for you? I’m not asking if it’s perfect, because no school will ever be perfect. I’m only asking if it’s working! Are your kids progressing through subjects, learning things, doing things?
• Don’t ask yourself if something else MIGHT work better, because you don’t know for sure if the grass is really greener somewhere else. You only know your own homeschool. Is it working? If it’s working, don’t stop!
• Parents make decisions, not children.
• Children don’t change completely when they change schools.  They are still the same person with the same weaknesses and struggles.
• When a child grows up, and becomes adult, sometimes changes are needed. This may be a situation where an alternative may be appropriate.  Read my article on the Community College Fad and learn about CollegePlus! Although neither option is perfect for everyone, one of those options may be helpful to you now.
• Involve your child is planning the year.  Include delight-directed learning, and make sure curriculum choices fit your CHILD rather than you, the teacher.
• If he feels stifled, the solution may be work. The best way to experience the world is to WORK in the world, not go to school with age-segregated people.  That’s not at all what the real world is like.  Can your child get employment and have a real job with others?

Just a short note of encouragement – two years ago, I was just where you are. I had purchased the Total Transcript Solution, as I knew I had to prepare transcripts for college admission, and my son had taken the SAT, but I knew NOTHING about what I should be doing to prepare for college admissions.

Toward the end of my month-long free subscription to the Gold Care Club, I contacted Lee with a question about the SAT – figured I may as well use it at least once before it expired!

I am taking a few moments to write to you before we send Jacob off to college on Sunday.  I was doing fine with Jacob going off to college until this past Saturday when I was grocery shopping and lost it when I was buying bananas! I know that sounds a little “bananas” but I realized at that moment that Jacob is the only person besides me who likes bananas in our family and that next week I won’t be grocery shopping for him. I thought my heart would break! Fortunately, I cracked my husband up telling him the story so I only cried for a few hours:(   Okay, on to my effusive thank you note!

Lee when I found your website and materials it was such a blessing! I had been struggling to create a transcript using some pretty expensive software and was just not having much success. From the very first time I spoke with you my anxiety level decreased immensely and I was able to create a beautiful document that accurately reflected Jacob’s accomplishments. Jacobwas especially grateful that you suggest I give him a computer programming credit for the sudoku problem-solving program and website he developed:) He certainly deserved it but I wasn’t looking “outside of the box.”

When we went on college visits I took his transcript with us and there was never anything but praise from the college admissions counselors. Jacob was ultimately admitted to the five schools he applied to and received scholarship
offers from every school. Since Jacob was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist he was awarded a 4-year full tuition scholarship to The Ohio State University (Honors Program) where he ultimately decided to attend. He will major in their computer science engineering program.

I hope that other parents who are considering homeschooling high school will realize that it can be done! I know when we were contemplating doing it one of my greatest fears was that I would mess up his life forever and he would not have the opportunities that other students would have. Well that was just simply wrong! Jacob was able to study at his own pace and accomplish quite a bit along the way:) I also feel that I was able to spend precious time with my son that was and will continue to be a blessing for our entire family. That isn’t to say that there weren’t hard days (weeks, months even!) but we persevered and grew so much along the way!

I can’t thank you enough for helping me pull it all together and cheering us across the finish line! I know we’ll continue to be in contact over the next two years as Sara begins the process of applying to the military academies. That will be an entirely different experience but I am sure with your materials and support it will be much easier:)
