Top Secret Tips for Winning Early Responder Bonuses!

April 19, 2009

OK, well not TOP Secret.  But tips for you, my faithful blog readers.  As you know, we launch the Gold Care Club in less than two days.  There are these really cool bonuses that will go out to the first SEVEN people who order at noon on Tuesday 4/21.  The only problem is…LOTS of people will be trying to get through.  Well here’s a tip for you.  There are several stages for the purchase and here is a way to move through them quickly.

  • As you are waiting for the moment of launch (noon, Pacific time by Atomic Clock).  Be pushing your refresh button often.  You will know it is the live page because it will say “The HomeScholar Gold Care Club is Live NOW!.  Page down once or twice until you see the first big Join Button.  Hit it.
  • First is the “setup your user name and password stage”.  One key is to ALREADY know your user name and password when you get there.  In other words, don’t pause to think of one.  And don’t forget to enter the password confirmation.
  • Second is the “enter your payment information stage.”  First enter your zip code.  Next is the credit card number.  This is the most important step because credit card information can be hard to read and type accurately, especially under time pressure.  Here’s a tip…have your credit card number written down in Notepad or Word and just cut and paste it.  That way you won’t have to worry about messing up!  Next enter the credit card expiration date and validation code.  Make sure to check the “I agree to payment terms…” on the bottom. Hit “PAY NOW”
  • Once payment is approved you will get to the “Complete your Order” stage.  Don’t even pause here.  Just click button and your done.

That’s it.  Once complete, your order is official and your position will be logged into ClickBank.  You will then be taken to the thank you page.  Take a deep breath and relax.  On this page, I have a little surprise for you.  It’s a “one-time offer” with a very special price on one of my most popular products.  You don’t have to rush through this page because your order has already registered. Take a look at that offer.  If you decide to purchase you will be taken to another shopping cart page to complete the order.  There is NO RUSH!  For this special one-time-offer I am waiving shipping charges for US residents, so it makes it even a better deal.  Remember, this offer will be one-time only, so if you click the “Close” button it will be gone forever.

Once you have been decided on the one-time offer you will be taken back to the “Thank You” page.  From there you can log into the Gold Care Bonus download page and see your bonuses and then access the Gold Care Club site.  Please remember to write down your user name and password so you remember.  The log in is “case sensitive” so be careful.

Anyway, these tips will give you an edge on ordering.  It is my way of thanking you for reading my blog!  For more information on the Gold Care Club, go to my offer page here.

Blessings,

Lee

PS. Here is a bonus video. Lee wanted everyone to see the “early responder gifts.” This is what the all the excitement is about.

Researching Colleges? Check the Fine Print!

April 17, 2009

It’s important to do your research about colleges.  My favorite statistics to check for any college include:

  1. What percent of students actually graduate in 4 years
  2. What is the average amount of debt per student
  3. What percent of students are employed after they graduate
  4. What percent get admitted to graduate schools?

It’s amazing what you can learn when you read the fine print.  We found a college where only 50 percent of kids graduated WITHIN SIX YEARS!  Can you imagine half the parents paying for TWO WHOLE YEARS EXTRA???  I was shocked!

Learn more about how to evaluate colleges in “Finding a College” on DVD.  And when you are doing your research, remember to look at the fine print!

Tomorrow is wrapping day!  That’s when Lee will wrap up all the great bonuses for our early responders.  I’ll make sure to post some pictures tomorrow!  Have you entered our drawing for a free month membership to the Gold Care Club.  All you need to do is post here with an answer to the question:  “Why do you deserve a free month on the Gold Care Club?” The rules are easy so make sure you read them first.  4 days until Launch!  Check out the offer here!

Help! My Child Knows More Than Me!!

April 16, 2009

Nikki wrote:

This is only my 2nd year to Homeschool; it is sad when your child knows more than you do. I need the help for me so I will understand what he is talking about when he asks me a question; I answer him; he tells me no that answer is wrong.

~Nikki

Dear Nikki,

I wanted to answer your concerns in the blog comment you left me.  It’s SO OK for your child to know more than you do! You don’t HAVE to know all the stuff they are learning – that’s their job, not yours.  Remember that you want your children to become self-learners, so that they can succeed in college or in their career.  Knowing how to teach yourself is one of the most important indicators of success, so what your child is doing now is a GREAT thing.

But also, I did have a strategy for “the answer is wrong” concern.  Sometimes the answer keys ARE wrong.  But most homeschool curriculum will have a support email, or an 800 number you can call.  When they think an answer in the answer key is wrong, you can contact the book author and find out.  Later on, when I got frustrated with my children because of that, I would tell them that their answer had to look EXACTLY like the answer key.  If it didn’t the answer was marked wrong unless my child called or emailed the author to get the corrected answer.  That put it in the hands of my children to solve the problem, and not me.

It’s wonderful that homeschooling will allow your children to learn at their own pace, even when they know more than you!  It’s a good thing, Nikki, not a bad thing.

The Friendship Cafe’

April 15, 2009

One of my favorite parts of homeschooling high school was when I had a scheduled “date” with my good friend, Debbie.  We would go to the local Starbucks and just sit and talk for hours about our lives.  Often the subject was homeschooling.  Her kids are slightly older than mine so she was an invaluable resource as I was living through the trials and troubles of high school age students.

It was always a blessing and a reassurance to be able to discuss my problems with my more “seasoned” home school friend and bounce ideas off of her.  She would often reassure me that things that I thought were disastrous were, if fact, perfectly normal.

That is exactly the effect I am going for onThe HomeScholar Gold Care Club.  It is a place where you can go to get training, information and assurance on all your homeschooling high school concerns. It can’t quite replicate the “coffee-shop” experience, but it comes close.  Especially on Wednesdays – my favorite day of the week.

On Wednesdays, I reserve the whole day just to talk to my Gold Care Club members on the phone.  Every week members can call and chat with me about their most vexing issues or even annoying smaller problems.  It is always fun and always rewarding.  The feedback has been tremendous.  One mom keeps a “Lee list” by her phone and calls me every Wednesday.  The feeling is like two friends getting together to chit-chat over coffee.

Does that sound like something you could use right about now in your homeschool? Well, I am here waiting for your call!  You can join my Gold Care Club starting on Tuesday, April 21 at 12 noon Pacific Time.  On my offer page there are details about all the great features of the club…the videos, the audios, the templates and planning tools.  My absolute favorite part though is just getting to talk to you.  To help lift the burden you are feeling for your junior high and high school students.  Be ready next Tuesday and you will also see lots of great bonuses for the first responders!

So join on Tuesday and then get your questions ready for Wednesday.  I’ll make the coffee!

April 13, 2009

Here is a brief video introduction of The HomeScholar Gold Care Club. Currently, The Gold Care Club is available as a free one month trial when you purchase my e-book, “The Easy Truth About Homeschool Transcripts.”  On April 21 at 12 noon (Pacific Time) we are launching The Gold Care Club on it’s own.  We will give you much more  information about the offer tomorrow via email. Please let me know what you think!

Getting answers to our family’s “biggest questions about homeschooling high school” was hard! It was a long, arduous process of research, questioning, and study.  Looking back, I am struck by how wonderful it would have been to have another mom to talk to – someone who had been through the process herself and would be able to share nuggets of information that could help.  Like most people, I learn better from someone I know, like, and trust.

The Gold Care Club will enable you to get your biggest questions answered by me.  If the answers aren’t in the Gold Care Club website already, then call me during the extended consulting time and we can talk about it!

Homeschool High School Help for Families Overseas!

April 9, 2009

If you are overseas, homeschooling as a military or missionary family, I would love to help you.  You can call me during my “Free Office Hours” using Skype for a free international call from your computer.  Here is more information.

My free 10 minute consultations are available on Wednesdays, from 1:00 – 2:00pm Pacific Time.  Here is a time zone map for you, so you can compare your time zone to Seattle Washington and calculate when to call me.

If you want to set up an appointment to call, I can do that.  I will be able to talk for your free 10 minute consultation, and if you decide you need more time to talk, then we can extend our conversation to a normal one hour telephone consultation.  A one hour telephone consultation is $50. If you have a list of questions, you can email it to me in advance.  I can usually get through quite a few questions in one hour when I have them in front of me.

Parents living overseas might really benefit from an alternative, however.  If you become a member of the Gold Care Club, you will receive a free weekly 20 minute consultations, audio and video courses that are internet based, and priority email support.  Because of your location, you might really thrive with that kind of support.  There are 4 or 5 one hour courses online all the time, and you could take them when you are in town, or when it is convenient for you to use the computer.  The Gold Care Club is free for one month when you purchase my e-book, “The Easy Truth About Homeschool Transcripts” for $37.  We will begin selling Gold Care Club membership separately on April 21.   It would be a great way for you to check it out and see if it will work with your situation and provide what you need.  With the Gold Care Club you can call me every Wednesday (from 9:00 to 4:00 Pacific Time) and you should be able to reach me without difficulty.

I’m glad my business is primarily internet-based, because I really think I can support you in a way that will make sense for your family.  I have many military, ex-pat, and missionary subscribers.

Homeschool Physics – An Apologia Success Story

April 8, 2009

It happened again.  I just found Kevin reading his Apologia Physics book.  For fun.  He’s a junior in engineering school, got straight A’s last quarter in all his engineering classes.  And he reads his Apologia Physics book for fun.  He is a “little nervous” about next quarter because he is taking quantum mechanics, so he wanted to review Apologia again before the quarter starts.  Good investment, that book.  Apologia Physics

Quote of the day:

“Getting good grades is easy, it’s LEARNING that is hard”

~ Kevin.

He tells me that there are lots of kids who will work the system to get good grades.  Kevin says he’s trying to really learn.  I’m so proud of him!

signature Homeschool Physics An Apologia Success Story

I have come to the conclusion that far too many parents quit homeschooling their children for exactly the wrong reason.  That reason is FEAR!   When I started The HomeScholar, all I wanted in the whole world was to make a difference in the lives of regular homeschool parents.  Parents who, like me, were filled with BIG questions about homeschooling high school:

  • “Can we teach high school subjects?”
  • “Am I qualified?”
  • “Will colleges accept my homeschool student?”

Questions and doubts like these drive many parents away from homeschooling high school and back into the world of private or public school classrooms. But I have good news!  You Can Be Strong and Confident!

The HomeScholar Gold Care Club launches on April 21.  You are going to love the strength and confidence you will feel as a member!!

When You Need a Homeschool Friend

March 30, 2009

lee consulting.thumbnail When You Need a Homeschool Friend

No matter where you live, if you need a friend, I’m here for you!  Sometimes what you REALLY need is a veteran homeschool mom who will listen… brainstorm…. encourage and support you!  Even though I live in Seattle, this morning I had a consultation with a mother in Florida.  This afternoon I have an appointment with a parent in China.  Tomorrow I’m meeting with a homeschooler located in Montana.

In fact, this is the time of year when my number one task is telephone consultations.  Parents are starting to look ahead toward next year, and they reach out for support.  If you have questions about classes, credits, tests, or high school,  I’ll be glad to support you!

Send me an email to request a telephone appointment.  My email address is homescholar@gmail.com.  You can also call and leave me a message on the phone, 1-888-Lee-2Help, but it’s a little easier to coordinate by email.  Remember that Gold Care Club members receive 20 minutes of telephone consulting free every week.

If you’re ready for a friend to come along side, I’m ready to talk with you!

Turn Passion Into Homeschool High School Credit

March 25, 2009

Let me demonstrate how to think through the process using the interest of the child and incorporating that into delight-directed learning.

A homeschool boy loves the show “Warriors” on The History Channel and just can’t get enough.  He read the hosts biography and has a desire to imitate his hero.  His mother wrote to me, looking for ways to translate this interest into “school.”  Here are the suggestions I gave her.

Dear [Gold Care Club Mom,]

I don’t think there has been a program written like that yet, so you’ll have to do it yourself!

But first, let’s think about it.  My son studied economics during every year of high school.  Beautiful Feet has their “History of Horses” program.  Let’s just assume that it CAN be done, and then brainstorm together.

Idea #1  How about the history of weapons?  There are certain “history of war” books that will provide a timeline of every war.  During each war, there could be some research, written reports, study the science of the times (tie it in to the history of science, for example, so that he studies that.)  He could draw each weapon as well.  Consider looking at the Teaching Company Lectures, because I believe they have some of the history of science topics.

Idea #2 Purchase a time period based curriculum (Sonlight, The Well Trained Mind, or Tapestry of Grace, for example.)  Instead of using their curriculum as written, substitute their writing suggestions for a more personalized assignment.  Spend additional research on your child’s interests, instead of the assigned research.  That would provide a little more structure than idea #2.

Idea #3 Model your high school after your son’s hero.  You and I both know that the hero’s resume’ is not what was required of him.  It was who he IS.  But to hold up your son to this ideal would really help in the long run.  By following this hero, your child will be motivates to learn math, science, etc.  Let’s look at his hero for a moment:

Terry Schappert: Terry began his military career 17 years ago with the 82nd Airborne Division. While assigned to a recon squad, he completed Ranger School. After serving in the Persian Gulf War, he moved on to his ultimate challenge, becoming a Green Beret.

This requires strong preparation in PE.

Since completing the Special Forces Qualification Course, Terry has been deployed on training and combat missions all over the world, most recently in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his military credentials; Terry is a licensed paramedic,

Biology and advanced biology are necessary for a paramedic.  Some experience with blood and/or hospitals are a help.  He might consider being a hospital volunteer.   Paramedics also need math, so they don’t kill someone by giving the wrong dose of a drug or the wrong volume of IV fluids.  Again, I’m a nurse, so trust me on this one.

has extensive martial arts training,

Excellent PE!  Marial arts can provide not only PE, but also a passionate interest that could last for 4-years, with the ability to develop leadership as his skills improve.

speaks several languages,

Ask your son what language he wants to speak, then follow that.

and holds a degree in anthropology.

Anthropology is a branch of social science (social studies.)  He would need to develop his history and comparative governments (US Government, etc.) as well as economics.  Anthropology requires a strong background in statistics, a branch of math.

Terry is the eyes and ears of the viewer, as he travels the globe to discover exactly what it takes to be a warrior.

Great opportunity to discover geography.  That might be a good “right now” course.  We used Runkle’s “Wonderful World of Geography” and my boys memorized the location of every country in the world (no kidding.)  It was great, because then as they learned more about history and current events, they could understand where they took place.  And as your son watches his hero on TV, he will know exactly where these places are located.

And by the way, the history channel is a GREAT way to get history!

So go for it!  Call me next Wednesday if you can, and we’ll talk about it more.
