Do Not Fear!

August 10, 2008

I remember choosing curriculum, and how concerned I would be about the choices each year.  Was it a good curriculum?  Was it a necessary expense?  Was it the right choice for my children?  It seemed like the curriculum choices I worried about the *MOST* were often the things that were the most successful.  Oh the irony!

Looking at the upcoming year can be intimidating even without curriculum choices weighing you down.  How can you get through the year now that your children are a year older, and your problems are completely different this year?  How can you make it through another year of homeschooling?!

I read this Bible verse this morning, and thought about homeschooling mothers.

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)  So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Blessings,

Lee

So far I’ve had to modify every single thing I’ve bought in order to fit my students. Even the world history study I pieced together for one kid – I modified my thinking about how long it would take to get through it because she wanted to go deeper every single lesson. I think tinkering and tweaking curriculae goes with the territory, and that’s where you have to trust God rather than the publisher.

I find that I too will need to make modifications to our history curriculum for my 9th grade daughter. The last few days I was really bothered by this thought because I wanted her to do it all. I wanted her to go deep on each part because that is how *I* am, but this is *her* education and it should be tailored to her.

Last night, I realized that if I wanted her to continue to love learning, I would have to make sure she can learn with the method and program I am using. So like a good homeschool mom, I plan to sit down today and work to make changes to the curriculum so that it suits her best.

Your article only and the scripture verse confirm that I am doing the right/best thing. I am not alone.
