Got Troubles?

December 7, 2008

When I read a Bible verse, sometimes I think about how it would have been written today, in this day in age.   That’s what happened when I started reading Psalm 46 the other day

Psalm 46:  God is our ever-present help in trouble

1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

(That includes trouble with homeschooling, Christmas, and financing, I suppose.)

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

(Looks like we have my concerns about earthquakes, landslides and tsunamis taken care of here.)

3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

(Looks like we have wars, bombings, and global warming handled as well.)

7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Be still, and know that God is God.  Stress and rottenness happen to us, that’s for sure.  But the Lord is with us.  We can handle anything with God beside us.  Even homeschooling during Christmas time when there is a major recession, and there is violence all around.  We can handle it, because He is our refuge.  When all else fails, and I have trouble being thankful about anything, there is one thing I keep coming back to.  I’m thankful that God is with me in the midst of difficulty.  Can you imagine how much more difficult it would be WITHOUT having God?  That thought helps me to be thankful even when the worst happens.
