I love being able to use the outdoors as part of my schooling.

Definitely doing lessons outside – even if that just means taking a book outside and reading on a blanket in the grass. PE gets a huge boost from the spring weather as there is more to do and play outdoors.

Homeschooling in the spring means we can think about our garden, now buried in over 2 feet of snow. We can consider what vegetables we will plant, that once summer comes, we will enjoy the fruits of our labors. It is wonderful to have the children plan, shop, plant, tend, and harvest from our small city garden. My 10 year old will share the fruits of our labors(fresh picked vegetables) with the children on our block, who are fascinated with the garden (plants and critters) each year. Knowing that winter is followed by spring brings great joy! Homeschooling THIS spring will mean my high school junior will be one year closer to graduating! How can this be? I recall the times (spring season?) when I would watch him as a toddler feeding the ants outside next to our garden. This year, I will be so mindful of the fact that he is on his way to beginning a new phase of his life, college! I am so grateful to God and my husband for the opportunity to have homeschooled him from the beginning. The years still remain for his sisters, grades 9 and 4.

We are CM homeschoolers so our Nature Studies get kicked in to high gear during the Spring. We go camping during the Spring and have a ton of opportunities to homeschool on the journey.

We LOVE the change of seasons… Adding buds to our monthly tree sketches… Finding bulbs popping through the soil… Seeing what new birds will show up in our neighborhood… Readying the garden beds for their late spring planting… Being in the Northwest, however, warm sunshine and picnics will probably be several months away…

One of my favorite things about homeschooling in spring is to be able to look back at the school year behind us and see how far my kids have come. They’re maturing fast and I love being here for it!
Of course, spring also brings warmer weather and we can take our school work outside to the back yard, knowing the PS kids are in stuffy classrooms!

In the spring we love doing our read aloud outside as well as painting and picture study with classical music we are studying in the background. Another favorite is having picnic lunches to break up the day.
