How Fickle Are You?

October 31, 2009

I hate reading about the last days of Christ’s life on earth.  I always come face-to-face with my own failings- UGH!  This time through, while I was reading in Matthew, I was thinking about how fickle people are.  Myself included.

Matthew 26:33-35

Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”

“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”

But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.

Uh huh.  Right.  That didn’t work out so well for Peter, because he really did disown Jesus three times that evening.  Have you ever done something like that?  Sometimes people will tell me that God has called them to homeschool.  If that is true, don’t change plans as you approach high school!  Unless God tells you to turn around and go the other way, changing your path is much like the fickleness of Peter.

It’s important to remember that Peter was no pushover. The first time Jesus met him, he called Peter “The Rock.”  Even this fellow who becomes a founder of the Christian church has his own moments of weakness and fickleness.  It can happen to anyone.

Just remember, if God said for you to homeschool, and he didn’t take it back, then assume you’re in the center of God’s will.  Even if things aren’t quite the way you imagined or expected, you’re still right where you are supposed to be.  God knows more than we do, and he must know that it would be worse somewhere else.

Thanks Lee! My daughter is in her Senior year of homeschool. I loved your last sentence, “he must know that it would be worse somewhere else.” YES! Homeschooling protected our child when drugs and bad influences threatened to take her away from us in public school. God has been so faithful, He has seen us through the storm and I give Him praise for that. She is so strong now because we felt He told us to “pull her closer to us.” I really enjoy your articles.
