I was thinking thinking about the shampoo bottle, and how it says, “Lather, Rinse, and Repeat.” First of all, who actually repeats? Is it just a marketing ploy to get us to use more shampoo?
Later on, I was talking to an upset parent who was trying to choose curriculum. In a lather about curriculum choices? It’s amazing how much there is to choose from these days! It’s overwhelming! I know that choosing curriculum can work parents into a lather. They become confused, frustrated, and anxious. it’s hard work homeschooling, sometimes, particularly during the planning phases.
Sometimes in our faith we can get into a lather too. That’s when we go to the next phase – rinse! Confess your sins and rinsing them away – whew! What a relief! I think we can apply that to our homeschool as well. Once in a while, just let that lather rinse away! Confess the weaknesses of your homeschool to the Lord, and get relief! He will forgive our missteps!
Finally – and this is the hard part – you have to “repeat.” That means going back into the trenches, face the curriculum catalog again (or the other homeschool task!) and jump right in with both feet. Keep trying, and continue to move forward.
Forget about “life is like a box of chocolates.” I think life is like shampoo instructions. If you are in a lather, rinse and then repeat for best results.
