“No-Duh” Math – a Follow-up

July 10, 2009

My nephew has a masters in math, and teaches at a public high school.  He told me that he prefers Saxon, because he felt it was the most rigorous and college prep.  For that reason, if Saxon is working for you, I would continue to use it.  If Saxon is NOT working for you, then look at a math book from the other good choices that are out there, knowing that nothing is perfect and learning is the key – not the textbook.

I will add that if your child HATES math, then it is probably a misfit with the curriculum.  Not every child loves math (no kidding! LOL!)  but you may be able to prevent a child from “hating” math, and get them to the point of tolerating it, if you choose a curriculum that is a good fit.

Here is another “no-brainer”:  A child will be better prepared for college and life if they gain mastery over a “fine” curriculum that is a good fit.  They will be less prepared for college and life if they are “just passing” with a curriculum that is more rigorous.

And now you are enlightened!
