Planning Thanksgiving Dinner and High School Graduation

November 26, 2008

I’ve got big plans for Thanksgiving Dinner.  The boys are coming home from college (with at least one girlfriend!) I’m so excited to see my cousin and her family!  My husband’s parents are coming, and bringing their dog, too!  It’s going to be a great time, relaxing with family.  I’m the cook, so I’ve started the meal today!

Thanksgiving Menu

Appetizers
Chips and dips
Veggies and dips
Satsuma oranges and dates

Dinner
Turkey with gravy
Sausage stuffing (no nuts)
Mashed potatoes in the crock pot
Whipped sweet potatoes
Cranberry-orange relish (no nuts)
Roasted asparagus and sweet peppers
Homemade bread

Dessert
Pumpkin pie with real whipped cream
Starbuck’s coffee

It’s going to take a lot of work to get this meal made.  It will take careful planning to get the whole meal on the table HOT all at once.  Parents who love to cook know the drill.  Cook ahead what you can.  Carefully time when you put each item in the oven.  I even set the table the night before!

Successfully homeschooling high school is very similar!  Plan ahead what you need to do.  See my article on planning high school courses here:

Timing can be an issue.  You may want to look over my article on 9 Easy Steps: High School Graduation Checklist to help you figure out the big picture.

If you are working with a Junior in high school, this year is just like the frantic 5 minutes before dinner, when there is a scramble to put it all on the table.  Get ready for crunch time by reading my article on Keys to a Successful Junior Year here

Homeschooling high school is NOT impossible.  It just takes some planning – just like Thanksgiving dinner!  Plan ahead, work ahead, and come out ahead!
