Why can’t things just stay the same? I hate change, so this is a real problem for me. Colleges have changed dramatically over time. Their academic, social, and moral standards. When I was in high school, for example, the University of Washington was our “backyard college” that everyone got into. Now it’s nationally renown college and is growing increasingly selective. It is considered to be a “Public Ivy” by some. My husband attended Pacific Lutheran University, and when we visited it with my children, we recognized that it had long ago lost it’s Christian heritage. Even the school my children attend, Seattle Pacific University, has recently been debating a controversial policy shift that may make it significantly more liberal. Everything changes. Some changes happen fast, and some take a long time. Make sure you visit the college that your students want to attend. You may not be able to keep it from changing during the four years your children attend, but you do want it to at least start out as a great fit.
